Manchester United and The Champions League

THE CHAMPIONS

The second leg of the Champions league is right around the corner. The only thing that we know for sure is that their will be one team from England in the Final. With that said I am going to guarantee that their will be two.  Manchester United will get past Barcelona at home, to reach the finals. However the Red Devils need to first shake off the uppercut knock out delivered by Chelsea during league play this weekend. Before I get deeper into the Champions League final, let me first get off on a quick little rant.

CELEBRATING

I am watching the Chelsea-Man. U game and Shevchenko is playing for the Blues. Now, don’t get me wrong in Italy, the Ukrain international was a stud. However he has been a bigger bust in the EPL than the second album by Milli Vanilli.  *sidenote, I might have just dated myself, so might as well tell you, I’m thiry one, man I miss the 80’s and nineties.  Back to Andrei, the once star player with A.C. Milan actually did something that I have never seen before. He celebrated a defensive play. Incase you missed the game, Chelsea was up 2-1 with just seconds remaining. Manchester United was dominating when a shot would have tied it up but Shevchenko was there to knock it out on the goal line. Now, sure it was a nice play, but Andrei Shevchenko, a man that has scored more than 200 goals in his career, is jumping on his teammates, slapping hands and hugging, and throwing his arms in the air, because he knocked a ball out! The game wasn’t even over. The play was continuing and there is the 31 yearold smiling like a first year player for doing FINALLY something worth a damn with his team.

Chelsea paid 60 million dollars for the ex-a.c. Milan striker, and well that just might have been worth it beucase Chelsea caught Manchester United in the Standings.

SEEING RED (DEVILS)

Sir Alex Furgeson could soon be red hot. Manchester United gave up their lead in the EPL and are now considering the possibility of no EPL title and if they get knocked oyt by Barcelona, no champions league title either.  But let me slam on the breaks and put my absolute, no doubt about it, prediction of the week, on the table. Man. U will not loose to Barcelona. Barcelona has not even scored a goal for four games. Lets repeat that….NO GOALS for four games.  With players like Messi, Henry, Etto, Bojan, Deco…and a manager that uses three forwards and an offensive style, they cant score ONE goal.  Ofcourse the Barca faithful will say that they are just focusing on the Champions and the return leg. Well forget it. They will not score at Old Trafford. Manchester moves on to the final.

EARLY PREDICTION

Before the tournament got underway I predicted three teams to go far. Barcelona, Manchester United and Milan. Milan failed me, but I had said the only reason I mentioned them was out of respect for the defending champs. However Manchester United and Barcelona have came through for me.  But I did pick Barca to win it all. I will now back track and give it to the Red Devils. Ofcourse if by a some crazy chance Barca wins it I will say….”I told you so”.

REDS VS BLUES

The other semifinal is harder to pick.  Chelsea and Liverpool also tied in the first leg. Thanks to an own goal by Jon Arne Riise the Blues are still alive.  But I think the huge win over Manchester united and the fact that they have a shot for the EPL title, Liverpool will get it done, and advance to the final. However, I think that series will be decided by penalty kicks.  Which means Liverpool-Manchester United Final.

C-RO

The difference maker will be C-RO, my nickname for Cristiano Ronaldo.  Simply the best player in the world however went back to his showboating days against Barcelona and choked on the penalty kick.  You sense that he feels the pressure to outshine Lionel Messi.  Even in the PK it looked like he wanted to stick it right in the top corner to again show how good he is…and instead he buckled. But the Portuguese pimp will bounce back and help claim the title for the reds.  Although if they choke at home against Barcelona and don’t win the EPL. It will be ZERO titles for Manchester United instead of two.
