About Me

The initial question that Franco faces in most of his interviews is “What does the title of your album mean?” With a grin, he then goes into the details of his unique background and to the audience, it slowly starts to make sense. Franco was born in New York City to a Dominican father and an Italian mother that had met on a trip to Santo Domingo. Being an American raised in a multi-cultural home, he was exposed to very disparate culture elements that few artists can claim to have experienced growing up. Frequent trips to the Dominican Republic and Italy combined with 80’s and 90’s MTV in addition to his parent’s extensive record collections created a musical identity for Franco like few others – a little Latin American, a little European and a little North American. Franco goes on to explain that the home where he would stay during his childhood visits to the Dominican Republic was located at the intersections of Avenida Churchill and via José Contreras in the capital of Santo Domingo. He shares that his identity and the musical fingerprint of his music is somehow reflective of this intersection; that the album is a harmonious and unforced encounter of cultures that produce something unique and beautiful. It is the place where the Anglo world meets the Latin world. Franco wrote, arranged and co-produced this album (in addition to playing most of the guitars on it) and was able to create an uncompromised musical reflection of this identity for all to enjoy. So far, critics have all agreed that ¿Dónde queda la Churchill con José Contreras? is a solid debut that showcases Franco’s unique voice, highly literate lyric writing and one-of-a-kind combination of Latin pop, Rock and Tropical sounds that make him stand out from the crowd. Franco’s future in the world of music holds quite a lot in store for him.

Music that’s in my head (and playlists):
Lately, I've been obsessed by Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan. Luckily, I've learned a lot about songwriting from them, which is being reflected on the work I'm putting together for my next album.

The stuff I’m obsessed with:
the 70's, Bachata-merengue, the Telecaster I built, writing and recording new songs, LOST, Stephen King novels, Robert Greene, cooking, BYOBs around Philadelphia, the summer (the whole "verano" thing appears all over my music), Italy, languages, wandering around the city, music.

What I can’t live without:
My ipod. They'll need to bury me with it as an old man.
